Tiny Scarf

Purple Enchantment

Still in the knitting frenzy, I found a really cute roll of wool for only two dollars, and decided to knit a scarf for my sister-in-law, she is a teen and loves all things cute and purple, hope she likes this one.

I finished it in a few hours, and ran to the shop to buy more of the same wool, because I had great fun knitting with this kind of wool.

Now, that it is ready, all I need is to post it to the far away Emerald Isle.

Pinky Fingers

After knitting a few different things I went back to the gloves frenzy and knit a beautiful pair of bright pink cute fingerless gloves.

For this, I used a lighter roll of wool and needles size 5.5 cm, and also knit both gloves at once, it took me a day to knit them and I closed them up and finished them a few days later because I had lost my sewing needle and had to ask my hubby (as I am stuck at home with my plaster cast) to go get a new one for me.

So, let’s see if I remember how many stitches I knitted.

I believe for these gloves I casted on 30 stitches, and knit 15 rows of rib stitch (2 knit, 2 purl, and so on), and then 28 rows of stockinette (knit one row, purl one row), then 10 more rows of rib stitch and cast off on rib stitch.

Man, I rock at this fingerless gloves knitting stuff!

The secret: Keep measuring your gloves on your hands, because different types of wool might require more or less rows to be knit.

Ah, and also I increased about 12 stitches and decreased them later, to make the curve of the hands. When I started knitting stockinette I increased 2 stitches in each row (until row 12), then I knit 2 rows, then I started decreasing 2 stitches in each row till the end of the stockinette knitting.

The result was much better than the black ones, since I knit them both at the same time they turned out equal this time 🙂

And I am aiming to make many more of these for next winter.

Mobile Phone Cozies

After having knitted a bit, and being creative, and with a LOT of spare wool left, I went online to look for new things to do.

I found some cute phone covers,  and decided to give it a try.

Happened to find out too, that it’s soooooooooo easy and quick to knit them and so much fun that I actually knitted 5 covers, in just a few hours, it takes about one hour to knit one of this, although to finish them is a bit more complicated, because they are smaller.

But I had some spare buttons and little cute trinkets and decided to use them to spice the covers up a bit. Or just to make them even cuter and frilly!

Have a quick pick at the result of these innovative ideas!

Mittens for Grown-ups

Well, I am becoming really expert in knitting, very proud of myself, now that I finally finished a pair of fingerless gloves, in one day, yes only ONE day.

This was my first try on the gloves subject, and after watching a lot of videos of how to knit fingerless gloves on the internet, and have tried to follow instructions on one of them, How To Knit Fingerless Gloves and have undone the gloves twice and started again.

On the first time after I had finished it, it was so small it could fit a tiny rat’s hand, (like I said, love analogies), so I undid it and started my own fingerless gloves, and they turned out perfect, nearly actually, one seems bigger than the other, but this is only a matter of time to get them the same size. 🙂

Now, a professional explanation, :-), how to knit this lovely fingerless gloves:

You know what you will need, needles, wool, etc, etc, depending on how thick is your wool, you will choose the size of your needle, for this I used size 5.5 cm needles, and medium-sized wool.

Well, this gloves I started casting on 28 stitches, then I knitted 15 rows of the so-called rib stitch, that means knit one, purl one.

Then 24 more rows, starting with knit, and the next row, purl and so on, and then 6 more rows of rib stitch, 2 knit, 2 purl, and then cast off in rib stitch.

Turned them inside out and sew it with a sewing needle, a big one, for knitting material.

A hint: I knitted them one at a time, that’s why they turned out slightly different sizes, the second one is longer than the first one.

So, the secret: knit them together, which I will be doing on my next pair of pinky girly fingerless gloves.

Wow, ok just sounded like a very professional knitting lady back there, that I have a picture of my lovely black fingerless gloves, the first of many, for you all to check out if I did a good job or not.

Give it socks!

Finally finished my first knitting project, a pair of green and black striped socks for my hubby.

Here is a picture of them, as they are the really pretty and funky, “and they keep your feet warm in these cold days” these are my hubby’s words of wisdom, as always.

Happy feet

Now, on to the fingerless gloves, fingers crossed (I like the analogy) that it works!

Knit the Purl and Purl the Knit

I have a broken foot for the past 40 days and still have a long way to go with this cold piece of concrete over my poor skinny leg, and being off work, and not being able to do much these days, so after going on a spree of cooking for about 30 days, and being bored watching TV, I decided to go on to some serious knitting,  for a change.

As I had done a bit of knitting when I was a teen, – I remember that I started a scarf, with orange wool, and I tried to knit it, didn’t go over the twelfth row, kept undoing it and ended up never finishing it, and I remember the stitches were so tight, that must have been the reason why I gave up. 🙂

I had already bought a fancy roll of brown wool and a pair of needles a while ago, in the beginning of winter here in Brazil, where I am living at the moment, with my lovely new hubby, but that is a subject for another day, and I had started another scarf, only this time I promised to finish it.

Well, I had knitted about ten rows of it and put it aside, so last week when my auntie came to spend some days with us, she, that is my inspiring idol for knitting, from that day on, continued my work of art, after she had knitted nearly all of it, I took it and continued, and actually finished it, yay!

It was intended from the beginning of the “project” (already an expert in knitting language) to be a scarf for my hubby, don’t ever know if he will wear it ever, but I was really happy to have finished it.

Keeping it toasty

Without saying, that with my auntie being here, helping me to do that, she taught me other types of stitches and how to do different things with the knitting, like start and finish, increase and decrease, knit and purl, do different patterns, real cool stuff that I loved to learn.

So, then after her visit we went to visit her, (it’s holiday time here now and I am off work for 3 more months, remember?) so, we spent some days there, and I said to her that I wanted to knit a pair of socks like the ones she had knit for herself, I wanted to knit them for my hubby aswell. 🙂 he is my guinea pig for these experiments, first the food, now the knitting.

She said she would buy me some wool and show me how to do it, which felt great because I can’t even go to the shop, so she showed me how to start and I decided to knit a black and green pair of socks, my hubby’s fav colour being green.

So, my auntie got the wool, and I started knitting the socks, and I loved doing it, knit half the socks while still in my auntie’s, she gave some more tips and now I am nearly finished with my first knitting project, that I made it all by myself, untill now. Not looking forward to the part that I’ll have to stitch the ends together, but I am sure I will do a brilliant job.

Meanwhile, I started thinking of my next project, a pair of gloves, fingerless gloves, as the other types are for professionals :-), and I had a look on internet, and had many many more ideas for projects, like sheep, mobile phone covers, and even a big jumper, and cute stuff that I can knit knit knit.

I hope I can continue with this hobby for a long time as I am enjoying it a lot.
