Flower cast

As you know if you read my older posts, I STILL have a broken foot, that is in a plaster cast. Although hopefully I will get rid of it in ten days, even though I still have a long way to get back on my feet (literally!) with physiotherapy and all. It is a victory to take it off after 75 days and be able to show off a very hairy pasty shrank white foot and leg.

Pity the world is not going to get to see this wonder yet for a while as I am off work till November, which should give me enough time to recover from this silly accident that has happened to me.

This is my second plaster cast, the first one was smaller,  as it didn’t have a heel, and I didn’t get to draw on it, only got some of my workmates to sign it, but as this one looks nicer and also feels cooler because I actually can walk with it, and believe me after spending 35 days without being able to put my foot on the floor, and walk, anyone would feel attached to a thing that provides them such liberty as being able to walk for 10 meters without having to use crutches or being hanging on everything or everyone that was near you.

As I grew accustomed with having a big white plaster cast covering a part of my body, I can dare to say that I will miss it a little bit, so I decided to celebrate the last days that we are still spending together (me and the cast) to draw nice and cute things on it, to have good memories of our last days together.

For that idea to come true, I asked my lovely hubby, to draw on my cast, as he is very good at that and he also enjoys doing it. As if he hadn’t already done enough things for me during all of this period, which I am really thankful for. He has been helping and putting up with me during this long time, that seemed to have been a never-ending “Edi in a cast” experience.

The drawing took a while since he had to plan a bit what he was going to do and I was always giving ideas of what I wanted, like girly things, butterflies, and sun and stars and love hearts. We decided to do some flourishes too as it’s very fashionable at the moment, and other things like the ladybird and the bunny, those were my hubby’s ideas.

So, after a few hours the drawing or drawings were ready, the cast looks super cute and really girly and colourful. Here goes a picture of it for you to glance at and be jealous.

And also a good-bye to my cast, and hello to new adventures with my new glued back together footsie!

The fad of Flourishes – Naff or not?

The title for this post is from this website that I found when I was looking for some flourishes to put on my wedding invites. She is certainly a lady that knows what she is talking about. In this post she has links to other websites of designers and illustrators that are AMAZING! If I were you I would certainly take some time to have a look at these.

I am no designer, but love all things cute, so flowers are on the top of my list, be them in any way displayed. It’s been a while already that I have been seeing flourishes around, and I liked what I have seen, so I decided to include them in my wedding.

We (by that I mean me and my hubby to be) created the invites and added a pretty and simple flourish, changed its colour to go with the pattern of the invite and it turned out perfect in the end, after a lot of work to put it on the right side of the invite, since they were all done DIY by my future hubby and I.

Our Flourish Flip-Flop

We liked them so much that we decided to make the most of them, so for the top of our wedding cake, on our initials, that the cat bride and cat groom were holding, we drew some cute pink flourishes and we loved the result of that too. By the way, the initials were all my hubby’s work of art. For that, I love him even more.

Flourishing creativity

This Flourishes fashion could be only a fad, but it certainly isn’t naff! It’s great and creative and brilliant, so get creative and create your own flourishes, for thousands of things and in millions of ways and colours and patterns and infinite applications.

Pinky Fingers

After knitting a few different things I went back to the gloves frenzy and knit a beautiful pair of bright pink cute fingerless gloves.

For this, I used a lighter roll of wool and needles size 5.5 cm, and also knit both gloves at once, it took me a day to knit them and I closed them up and finished them a few days later because I had lost my sewing needle and had to ask my hubby (as I am stuck at home with my plaster cast) to go get a new one for me.

So, let’s see if I remember how many stitches I knitted.

I believe for these gloves I casted on 30 stitches, and knit 15 rows of rib stitch (2 knit, 2 purl, and so on), and then 28 rows of stockinette (knit one row, purl one row), then 10 more rows of rib stitch and cast off on rib stitch.

Man, I rock at this fingerless gloves knitting stuff!

The secret: Keep measuring your gloves on your hands, because different types of wool might require more or less rows to be knit.

Ah, and also I increased about 12 stitches and decreased them later, to make the curve of the hands. When I started knitting stockinette I increased 2 stitches in each row (until row 12), then I knit 2 rows, then I started decreasing 2 stitches in each row till the end of the stockinette knitting.

The result was much better than the black ones, since I knit them both at the same time they turned out equal this time 🙂

And I am aiming to make many more of these for next winter.

Mobile Phone Cozies

After having knitted a bit, and being creative, and with a LOT of spare wool left, I went online to look for new things to do.

I found some cute phone covers,  and decided to give it a try.

Happened to find out too, that it’s soooooooooo easy and quick to knit them and so much fun that I actually knitted 5 covers, in just a few hours, it takes about one hour to knit one of this, although to finish them is a bit more complicated, because they are smaller.

But I had some spare buttons and little cute trinkets and decided to use them to spice the covers up a bit. Or just to make them even cuter and frilly!

Have a quick pick at the result of these innovative ideas!
